My position: what has been done to the Masalit and other non-Arab peoples of Darfur is racism, and it is currently the best-documented ongoing case of it anywhere. The same militia carried out the killing in 2003 and again after 2023, under two names, and both times it selected victims by an ethnic category rather than by anything they had done.

This page carries a distinction I cannot make anywhere else on this site. On Myanmar the case is still being heard, and on Xinjiang there is no case at all. Here a man has been tried, convicted and sentenced, and a UN mechanism has found genocide. That changes what I am allowed to assert, and it also shows how little a conviction fixes.

Precision

Both sides in this war have committed serious crimes. I say so in section six rather than building a page that pretends only one army exists.

Currency

This is the fastest-moving topic on the site. Every claim here carries a date, and the dates matter.

Consistency

Same standard as Rwanda: the categories are constructed, and constructed categories still get people killed.
